Bob, I noticed in your great photos, the CP caboose with the conductor/brakeman celebrating and the lights on the caboose. I understand the red light in the center, but what do the two vertical green lights on each side mean? Also marker lights (lanterns) on cabooses and end of passenger trains have red to the rear, which is pretty much understandable, but some have green that face to the sides and front and some amber. There must be a reason for this. I am pretty familar with class lights on locos but don’t understand the marker colors. Thanks in advance, Ken
Marker lights on a caboose are usually RED to the rear and GREEN or YELLOW to the side. The side color is dependent on the individual railroad. When running on double track or parked in a siding, the rear marker light next to the the other main track is set to GREEN or YELLOW to indicate that track is clear. If parked in a center siding between two active main lines, both rear markers will be GREEN or YELLOW.
Jim
Thanks. I found some info like yours jrbernier. Now I assume the two stes of vertical green lights on Bob’s caboose would perform the same job as the US caboose lights. Thanks again. Ken
