Toccata for Toy Trains, extra cool film from 1957

This is just too wonderfull not to share

Yes I know this is all tinplate and collectables and yes, it already has been posted in the CTT forum, but as a piece of railroadania, model train history, and just plain good film making this is a wonderful film! Lots of ideas how to film your layout regardless of what your scale de jour is:

This was made by Modernist couple extraordinare of Ray and Charles Eames and is a fabulous piece of film making. Some neat O and Gauge 1 pieces in here. Still trying to figure out how parts of this were shot, its far better than most contemporary videos of model trains.

This was made in the late 1950’s, these trains were valuable then, I shudder to think how valuable this collection would be today.

Enjoy

That is definitely a cool movie, but I’m puzzled by one thing: Why is it titled 1957, when the copyright date on the lead-in credits plainly says 1989?

The Eames estate renewed the copyright in 1989.

Wow! I remember seeing that way back in the 60’s. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for posting this. Elmer Bernstein (no relation to Leonard Bernstein as far as I can tell) was a greatly gifted film music composer with a huge list of popular films for which he wrote the scores
