Today, Dec. 16th, in railroad history

1941: UP “City of Salina”. first streamliner ( M-10,000 from 1934), removed from service.

1967: Delaware & Hudson buys 4 Santa Fe Alco PA’s.

Does anybody know if the M-10,000 went to a museum? How about the D&H PA’s? Are these in somebody’s warehouse in Michagin, or is that a railroad urban legend?

Anybody else?

IIRC the PA’s went to Mexico and 2 were just recently repatriated to the U.S. One went to Doyle MacCormack who wants to restore it and paint it in Nickel Plate colors. The other went to the Smithsonian.

The M10000 is long gone-
“Because it was considered experimental, the City of Salina was quickly depreciated. There was also some problem with deterioration of the aluminum underbody. The set was scrapped for war material in 1942.”

All 4 of the D&H PA locomotives are still around, with two in Mexico. Michigan has the two RF Sharknoses, which I prefer.

I’ve read both stories; Mexico/Michigan, told about both the PA’s and Sharks.???

Both PAs in Mexico are in museums. One PA in the US is in Portland OR, being restored to operating condition, and is being painted in Nickel Plate colors. The other was originally destined for the Smithsonion, but I have heard that the Smithsonion sold the unit, I don’t know who to.This unit MAY still be in Albany,OR where both PAs were sent originally.

D&H had the 4 Alco PA locomotives and 2 Baldwin RF 16 locomotives painted into blue and silver “Warbonnet”. The 4 PAs went to Mexico and the two “Sharks” went to Michigan. The Sharks are stored unserviceable inside a roundhouse (Escanaba ?).

I believe Doyle’s PA is painted into Wabash colors and his RSD5 is in Nickel Plate colors. I think the Smithsonian PA is going to be loaned to another museum, and the two in Mexico are in SP Daylight and NdeM colors.
