Today's Cardinal

Sounds like it was a great time. Wish I was around to see all the action that was on those two lines.

Yes it was a great time and my only regret is that I didn’t take more photographs. Then instead of memory, I’d be able to actually see what I took for granted back then in the late 50’s and early 60’s.

Oh well, time marches on.

Gary does not like to run late. If the train is in Indy on time and out just the same, the train on Monday will in Chicago early

Let me re-ask my question, because it’s bothering me and so far, no one has responded. If the Cardinal (or any all-reserved train) has no passengers slated to board at a station and no one scheduled to alight, does it even stop at the station? What is Amtrak’s policy?

If I think about it, I’ll ask on the way home tomorrow. I am pretty sure they will always stop and I am certain that they will not leave ahead of the scheduled departure time. Coming out to DC last week, we made a fast stop at one station (can’t recall which) with no passengers on or off. The conductor stepped off, looked up and down the platform and stepped right back on giving a “High Ball”. The conductor will not necessarily have the latest reservation information and I don’t think they want to leave anyone behind.

I’m certain Jay will have a more difinitive answer after his trip.

I’m fairly certain they must stop and if running early they have to hold at the station until the scheduled departure time. Not just because a passenger might show up, their authority over the line is based on not leaving any locations ahead of schedule.
