I was trying to start a new modern layout. Where can I find a list of currently used switchers and locomotives? I appreciate all feed back.
If HO, some of those three axle locos require 22" radius.
I think it would depend on the railroad you want to model. There are a wide variety of loco’s being used today. The first class RR’s (UP, BNSF, NS, CSX) will use the most modern equipment, but will also have some older models still running. The regional & short line RR’s will usually have older, mostly refurbished equipment.

I would also think that the scale you want to model in could limit what you can run. For example, I model in N-scale, which (while expanding) can be limited on what’s avaiable - depending on what RR you model, etc.
There are also books available at your local Hobby shop.

If you’re interested in Canadian rairoads, the Canadian Trackside Guide is published every spring by the Bytown Railway Society. This lists every locomotive in use in Canada and the shop she calls home. Also passenger cars, transit cars, preserved equipment…) Also includes info on some US based roads that travel into Canada.
(it’s available in most hobby shops in Canada and the Society will mail it to you. I don’t have an address handy.)
