Todays Update of layout 1/30/07 injury report.

Well today I started installing the bottom layer rope lights everything was going good till I sat down. I sat down leaned a little back and wham I fell to the floor. The rear end of the bar stool broke off. In the process of “trying” to stop falling off/all the way down I managed to get cut by track (dont worry the track is fine) My back is hurting pretty good but plan on getting back to the lighting tonight.

On the safer side of Model Railroading I have been slowly working on Miss Betty’s Diner for 5 months and I finally got the chance to install the tables so now its onto the window glass. Now if I make it through without the glass breaking It will be a miracle in model train land.

At least nothing on you broke. Like a wrist or anything. This is about the only hobby I get hurt on. The other day I was moving some track and there was a track nail in the board. Well all of a sudden my little finger is cut wide open. Our layouts are out to get us… Good thing is, you’ll be right back at it. [;)]

Yeah thank the MR gods nothing got hurt figure a little break resting the back and some good old laying down will cure me gives me a chane to catch up on reading.

Sorry to hear your layout is out to get you also. My first layout when Iused track nails bit me to split my middle finger had 3 band aids couldnt bend it hopefully no one thought I was flipping them off lol.

I will be back at it tonight as stated earlier and I will win lol.

Oooch! I was rolling around on my office chair in the train building and hit a stone on the floor. The chair stopped dead and sent me flying backwards on top of a space heater on the floor. Hit my head, hurt my back, smashed the heater and a tray of about 20 plaster castings that were drying in front of the heater. I was “a little” upset.

Was peacefully working on the workbench. The Xacto knife suddenly got out of my hands and headed straight for my body. I got out of the way VERY fast. The resulting bangs, scrapes and some destroyed inventory was ok. The potential for a bad cut or stab wound in certain areas is quite there. I was upset but not too much.

I usually get smashed working around coil steel and aluminum with the flatbeds years ago and cut bad from time to time. But it is good to think about what you are about to do on that workbench and carefully do your work. There is potential with the chemicals etc for great burns or damage to eyes etc… or even fires.

I dont know why little bitty xacto blades scare me so much. Ive dealt with much bigger knives in bad areas years ago back in the markets and those dont bother me nearly as much.

Ooo…Sounds like a bad fall…Glad to hear that you are only hurting; you could’ve broken your tail bone or something (I ain’t a doctor…[:P]).

This hobby’s kind of dangerous though, isn’t it? I’ve been burned by a wheel set that was sitting on about 14 volts for maybe ten minutes…Left a scar in my thumb that looked like a pony truck wheel for a few weeks…I’ve slit myself open with X-Acto knives and track saws…Some minor…Some a bit deeper…

But it’s all worth it, isn’t it? [^]

Well I got the white rope lights hung like I said I won woo hoo. Started with the blue for night scene but back started hurting so i called it quits for the night. Looks good with the white will take pictures tomorrow.

I’m glad others have the same issues as I do when it comes to working. I actually got burned on a coupler spring that was sitting next to an soldering iron, I have cut myself one too many times on X-actos Hit my head on exposed screws.

I’ve been trying to tell my friends this all of the time! Model Railroading IS dangerous!

Phil

My favorite form of self-mutilation while model railroading is dripping molten solder on to various parts of my anatomy - some critical.

Second favorite is causing 9.0 magnitude earthquakes on the layout - instantly laying all trains on their sides - and various scars on my charred and burned body by misjudging the duckunder.

Both have caused my children to learn language I would have rather they not learned until they were grown.

There are safer hobbies, but not many as fun!

Yet another reminder, There are nasties out there…keep your tetanus shots up to date! signed…been there-done that-still doin’ the train thing!jc5729
