With the recent unexpected addition of an HO passenger train to my otherwise N collection, I have been thinking about what to do with it. One of my thoughts is to run it around the perimeter of my office, at a height of about 7’ to clear the door and molding. My question is, is it too high? Will the trains be too far up? I would just run track, no structures or scenery. One other thing, the office has a 10’ ceiling so the train will not be too cramped. Thoughts?
On a side note, I am thoroughly enjoying my immersion into this hobby and appreciate all of the patience and advice from the seasoned collection of experts on this forum. [bow]
I have thought about doing a loop above the doors and windows. Sure would keep the cats from “interacting” with it. But the pain in my neck and shoulders from installing and cleaning the track has given me pause. Still, it would be way cool…
I wouldn’t be able to resist adding scenery. Start with just a simple backdrop. Add some building flats, and maybe some trees. You could have a signal bridge or a road with crossing gates in front, or a tunnel for the train to go through. Before you know it, you could have a whole layout up there…
I think that would be hard with N-scale. They are so short they would have to be really close to the edge to be able to be seen. Even from across the room. The round the top of the room layouts that I would call successful have all be G or O gauge.
Being the size of N-scale and the height, most people,I would believe, won’t even know it’s there…
Just a thought,but how about,making the shelf,out of Lexan plastic,clear,about,4inches,wide,maybe,1/4 inch thick,with decorative supports,To me that would be a focal point…
Frank & Zeph: Sorry I was not more clear. While I started with N, I now have an HO passenger train I would be using as the high train. Given that, I am still concerned it would bee too small to be seen at that height.
In my truck driving days, there is a truck stop in the,‘‘Buick’’,( Saginaw,Flint,Mich.) that has a G-Scale,train running around the entire, restaurant, near the ceiling,in some spots, they even have bridges and trestles…very impressive…
