I have an MTH autocarrier. It is a double decker,
carrying 4 cars, 2 on top & 2 on bottom. Because it is top heavy, it rolls over at high speeds on my 0-31 curves. I tried lowering the car’s center of gravity by taping lead fishing weights(sinkers)
to the underside of the car. This has met with limited success, because the round shape of the weights prevents me from adding enough weight. My local hobby shop was unable to provide me with any other ideas. Does anyone know of flat weights I could affix to the underside of this autocarrier, or have any other ideas? Thanks.
Thom, you can also go to a plumbing supply and buy sheet lead and cut it to the shape and size you need with tin snips. If your curves are on a layout, you can loosen the track and slip shims under the outside edge of the ties to “bank” the curves like a real railroad does. Maybe as much as 1/8". Start gentlu two sections back before the curve, and two after the curve. Try it, you may not need the weights.
Most hobby shops sell 1/2 ounce lead weights that are square shaped with sticky tape on one surface to glue down to the underframe of a model rail car. I do not recall the manufacturer but “A-Line” sticks in my mind. Go to www.walthers.com and search for weights. Get the item number and have your hobby shop order these.
