The following is a description for a power pack that i am debating buying.
How do i connect it to N Scale track without soldering?
1 x 12 Volt Power mite MODEL TRANSFORMER AS FOUND IN MOST LIFE-LIKE TRAIN SETS.
iNCLUDES AC ACCESSORY OUTPUTS FOR LIGHTS,TURNOUTS,ETC.

You have to connect the variable DC (not the AC) to the track. Usually there are screw terminals on the power pack. If you are using sectional track, you can get a terminal section, which has the wires already connected to the rails. Just screw your wires to this. There are also terminal rail joiners (at least in HO), but these are not as durable. Atlas makes these products.
If you are going to have a layout, soldering is a good skill to develop. A small iron (25 to 35 watts) and electronic solder (available at Radio Shack) will get you started. I use extra fine solder that I got from Mouser (www.mouser.com).
