Topless Coil car incident

I’ve seen coil cars that are empty with the tops off and ones with the tops on, but 2 days ago, on CSX at Alexandria, a train came through with the top off and 2 or 3 coil cars exposed! One coil was a bit rusty and the other was REAL rusty. I’m wondering if they forgot to put the top on or just ran out of tops. Perhaps the rust is no big deal if these coils eventually get rerolled?

Anyway, I eventually want to purchase some coil cars for my layout and may leave the top off of one and give it some rusty weathering.

I was thinking about putting a topless babe in the O scale coil car. That would then be a real topless coil car incident!

I think we need to find David a date. And quickly. [:D][;)]

Looks like she was in such a hurry to catch the train, she forgot to do a final mirror check.

I’ll be on the lookout for hitchhikers from now on.

Did you see something like this???

HI all,

For those who don’t know, I have worked in the metal stamping business for over 35 years, from tool & die maker to die design to Engineering Manager. I am now Sr. Estimating Engineer, over seeing our Estimating department.

These steel coils usually is used to make stamping for the auto industry, like frame parts, to fender and car hoods. If the outside of the coil is rusty, it is un-wrapped when set in the punch press. The outside wrap is sold as scrap and recycled, but not used a car parts.
