Hey all just an hour ago, i was sitting in my living room eating a sandwich when the tornado sirens are going off. So my dad rushs me to the basement when the winds pick up almost instantly when sirens started. We play poker for about and hour. When we finally go upstairs our neighbors tells us a tornado hit the north side of Villa Park( my town) destroyin trees and she even said houses.
My family wasnt hurt but i just thought id get it out here
Sorry to hear that, hopefully nobody is seriously injured. I heard about the tornado heading for Villa Park on the news today. They broke in while I was watching the Cubs and showed that. There was another report of a tornado possibly touching down near Bolingbrook, which is just to the east of Joliet where I am. The area isn’t done yet either as Kane County is under a severe thunderstorm warning, but thankfully no tornado warnings this time, at least for now. It is also reported that the UP-W Metra line, which of course is the one that runs right through Villa Park is shut down, and there are flipped over cars on the CTA Red. I’m sure there are also delays on other Metra lines in the area judging by how widespread the winds were.
Ive been chased by em and had my town wrecked by one and it’s really just not a problem. 5 Minutes of terror and the cleanup starts.
Dont let fear take over your mind. It’s good to be scared witless but you need to keep your head on and continue to function doing what you need to to get yourself and your family safe.
I concur that it’s not over yet… there be storms rolling in.
Tornadoe sirens went off here in Aurora but no twisters (one hit in Bollingbrook, south of here) but about 60 mph plus winds, lots of lightening and about a half inch of rain in ten minutes…wow.
I concur, I have been watching the radar all day… Not only that, according to the National Weather Service, round 3 is scheduled for tomorrow. Lots of unstable air, with plenty of convection…
From the NWS Forecast Discussion:
FRIDAY APPEARS TO BE ANOTHER POTENTIALLY ACTIVE SEVERE WEATHER DAY
AS MORE PRONOUNCED MID/[UPPER LEVEL](http://www.crh.noaa.gov/glossary.php?word=UPPER LEVEL) TROUGH MOVES THROUGH NORTHERN
ILLINOIS WITH MODEL FORECASTS INDICATING MID LEVEL WINDS ON THE
ORDER OF 50 KNOTS. GIVEN POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY RAIN OVER THE NEXT FEW
DAYS HAVE ISSUED A [FLASH FLOOD](http://www.crh.noaa.gov/glossary.php?word=FLASH FLOOD) WATCH IN EFFECT FOR NORTHERN HALF OF
THE FORECAST AREA THROUGH LATE FRIDAY NIGHT…AND ACROSS FAR
SOUTHERN PORTIONS FRIDAY MORNING AND FRIDAY NIGHT.
So, it would appear we are not done yet… (I’m a part-time weather geek too…[:D])
When I was chief we bought all new pagers. I had the county weather alert put in them, except it didn’t work for some time after we bought them (an issue with the dispatch system). It works now… My successor was not impressed when he was wakened at 2AM for a severe thunderstorm warning…
Your town’s right next to my town, Colin. We had to go to Elmhurst to find a suitable meal–our power was out, so Pat didn’t want to open the fridge. Sirens went off in Lombard until stilled by the power outage. Anyway, lots of trees broken or uprooted. Police had closed off Villa Park (at least from North Avenue). We have branches in our backyard and a little water in the dungeon–otherwise we’re lucky, so far. An inch and a half of rain fellin about four hours at our house.
Good news, though–Metra was still running a rush-hour fleet (maybe a tad late) through Elmhurst. Brian, Chris, or Willy, I’ll bet you know where we ate tonight!
