I’m going to be in Toronto next week for a family gathering and will have a day or two free to railfan in and around Toronto. Can anybody give me any suggestions? I’ve been to Bayview Jct so I know about that. Was wondering about the areas where the CN and CP lines appear to parallel each other east of Oshawa. Is there any particular spot there that would be good? Could I ride a VIA train out to one of the towns and be within walking distance of a good spot with CP & CN viewing? Any place in the city itself? I could rent a car for one day maybe, but otherwise I’ll be riding the TTC.

Try Cobourg, there is a Via station next to the CN and CP tracks with VIA service. A local CN train switches the CN side daily.

CN runs long trains.
