Tortoise and Peco switches

Is the Tortoise strong enough to throw the Peco switch with the spring still in it?

TIA,

Dan

If you use a heavy enough wire in the Tortoise it may be, but I always remove the Peco spring to be on the safe side.

I am installing tortise machines right now and have tried both methods. I installed .32 wire in place of the supplied wire and have run a test with the peco switches. With the heavy wire, the turnout gets thrown. With the supplied wire, I wasn’t getting consistent results. I took out the springs on the turnout and found that the switch ran more smoothly. I like the spring action of the peco turnouts but with the tortoise machines I think I am going to remove the springs just to have smoother operation.

I removed the Peco overcenter springs after the Tortoises had trouble overcoming their resistance.
