i was on a link that someone sent me and it said to insert the tortois and pc board under the switch machine…what did he mean by that??
Perhaps you saw the link where someone used a PC board to secure his tortoise to a foam bed layout.
It’s just an ordinary break board you can pick up at radio shack. It’s thin, strong, and easy to cut. If you can find a similar material that would work just as well.
Some people call turnouts “switch machines” so maybe he meant something like that – otherwise I have no idea what the writer was trying to say. If you have never used a Tortoise before, they mount under the layout.
I saw that post, the author used a pc board and mounted the switch machine to it, then from the top of the layout cut away the surface of the foam so the pc board could lie flat .
This is just another option to mount the switch machine as opposed to mounting it below the foam and having to glue some wood to the underside of the foam and then mount the switch
