Here are some musings that are unusual, though nevertheless interesting:
A reproduction of a postwar outfit (such as the 1479WS Freight from 1952), but made up of scale-length modern era equiment based upon the original pieces. Using the 1479WS as an example, the rolling stock would all be of the “Standard O” variety but would feature original decoration.
A hi-rail layout featuring realistic scenery and operation… but with Louis Marx trains and accessories.
O Gauge track placed from one end of the continent to the other to replicate a cross-country railway journey in 1/48th scale.
An O scale layout of the USA would be over 63 real miles from NY to LA. Now if it was in Z scale NY to LA would be about 14 miles. With enough money you might be able to do that in Texas.
When I mentioned the imaginative (but admittedly absurd) idea of a continental-wide stretch of track, I was meaning things literally: three-rail track laid (perhaps alongside a real railway line) from coast to coast. You would certainly need a lot of blocks to carry this out and operators would be needed in abundance. I’m guessing a ZW would have to be located in every major city along the route.
Very interesting thought, but you would run into a lot of problems doing it. First you would have to do a tunnel or something like that at each road crossing as the cars would ruin the track even if it was even with the road. think you would have to have more than just a zw at each major city probably more like every 1mile to 2 miles I think would stretch the limits unless you had super good connections.
but still would be very neat thing to see and put a camera car on it so its trip could be show via satelite to all interested. Of coarse you would have to have recievers quite often also I’m sure.
