Hey everyone,
I’m gonna build a temporary layout in my bedroom found in Model Trains Step by Step. It is on page 62, and is done with Marklin C Track. Can anyone help me adjust the C Track into Atlas Snap Track.
The marklin track list is:
14 3/16" radius
17 1/4" radius
left curved turnout
right curved turnout
So am I better off getting 18" sectional and 15" sectional or going flex track on the curves? Thanks for your help!
Either way should work. The Marklin sizes (in inches) are probably so odd-sounding because they are actually metric (36 cm and 44 cm respectively)
It just depends on whether you want to use (or already have on hand) snap track or flex track.
Sectional track is simpler - just plug it together. Comes in two radii (22" & 18").
Flextrack has to be shaped, cut, trimmed, and then joined.
One is suited for the newcomer - the other, the intermedient modeler. Code 100 is the cheapest and sturdiest; Code 83 is newer and designed for the Intermedient modeler; and Codes 40 -70 for the advanced, or ‘realistic is better’ crowd. (see cover Oct. MR).
One nice thing about riding trains is one can get off at any stop. Same for modeling.
