Track Cleaners

What track cleaner is best to use for track with inside blacken rail, ( K Line SuperSnap). Either commercial or otherwise, suggestions welcome. Thanks.

I just use an old wrag or an old t-shirt with some alcohol soaked in to get rid of the gunk. I’m sorry I don’t know much about track cleaners but they are pretty expensive. Do you have a big layout?

I have some pretty good success with a home-made car - a weighted 027 flat car that I put two holes in. I put a downward-facing screw in each hole, slightly off-center so that although the screw is higher than the railhead, each doesn’t glide above it. I then stuck two stacked scotch-brite-type pads on the nails. I run it ‘dry’ behind an existing train and it seems to work at pushing off the dust.

For years I have used rubbing alcohol, and althuogh it leaves a lite film on the track it cleans real good and dries fast so there is never any rust fron it. I agree that store bought track cleaner is way to expensive and is probably mostly alcohol anyway.

Isopropyl alcohol comes in two concentrations, I believe. It’s what I use. So cheap, quick, and easy to use it, encourages one to clean track before things start going South. Wife cannot understand where all my white t-shirts disappear to, though.
