track cleaning cars

How well do these work? I have some inaccessible spots and will have to buy one. Just wondering.

work alright from others layouts never got one myself just because i don’t need one but from what i’ve seen there not bad.

Size of your layout? This will give you a little hint. Ours is over 600 ft of track. We bought a Micrtronics II static cleaner. After pushing it around with an Atlas RS-1 for an HOUR i did not see any cleaner track. The unit was $119.00 I think. I then used an 0-5-0 to push around a gun cleaning pad soaked with rubbing alchol and I had CLEAN track. I bought an OLD MDC box cab diesel track cleaner on EBAY and will fit it with the gun pads Wet up frount and dry in back. This will be PULLED by the RS-1.
In a Direct answer the size or qunatity of track to clean will tell you what you need. The Brite boy and an 0-5-0 has been around for years. I do not like to scratch the rails so I will use a liquid. Ther are pleant on the market, I use alcholo since it evaporates 100%.
Other will answer. But may I suggest ot do a search on this subject.[:D]

You can’t beat the CMX Clean Machine. It’s pricey, but works great and should last, well, forever. You can use it with liquid (I use acetone, but be careful) or abrasive pads. If you get it from Tony’s, there’s his usual guarantee – if you don’t like it, send it back for full credit/refund. Hard to beat that!

We use a CMX with rubbing alcohol and follow with a dry roller type device. After several passes with this combo we do a pretty good job at cleaning 600 ft of NS track.
