Starting a new layout and I am wondering which code of track to use? Code 83 or 100? Also which manufacture is the best for flex track, turnouts, and is most compatable with DCC? Any information will be very helpful. I want to build my layout right the first time.
well, for realisam the best size to use is Code 83 and/orCode 70 for the mainline and Code 70 for the sidings, yard tracks, etc. Code 100 scales out to a size rail that is rarely ever used in real life.
If however, you don’t mind it not being realistic, then you can go with Code 100 on the mains and Code 83 and/or Code 70 everywhere else. That’s what I did for my HO layout (which, by the numbers you give, you’re obviously in it, to! I’m no longer in it, I’m now in N).

Code 100 is least expensive, most reliable for operation and most out of scale (too big).
Code 83 is on the large size for reality, is 57% as strong as code 100.
Code 70 is close to size, reality can be larger or smaller depending on the particaluar application. Weaker yet - 34 % as strong as code 100.
Define best: reliability, scale, etc.
