I am building an N scale layout (total newb). I like the looks of the Atlas code 55 (brown ties). Is this good for a first layout i.e. switches, ease of layout, and compatability with other manufaturer in the same size? It is going on 2" foamboard, and I am also leaning towards geared switch motors with a bipolar power supply. Any advice from more exsperienced modelers would be truly appreciated.

Hey [#welcome]
Sorry I can’t help you I’m in HO code 100 and having a ball!!
Don’t be discouraged by the lack of replies I’m sure some one (mayby egmurphy) will see this and give you some ideas
Ken.
If you are a newbie, don’t go with code 55. it looks nice, but the small rail height means more problems for operation with less-than-well-made trucks.
You’ll find the code 80 stuff is probably more reliable.
Of course, if you opt for the 55, it gives you an excuse to get into the maintenance part of the hobby. grins Learning to replace trucks, maintain standards for your rolling stock, etc., etc…
