Hi, I am new to the hobby (very new), and have a question. First, I am interested in a diesel locomotive that will navigate on O-31 curves. Will it run on O-36 curves (Fast Tracks)? Like I said I just started to get into this hobby. Thank you.
Hi First Timer[#welcome],
You are obviously working with 3 Rail O-Gauge, so you would get more, and better replies over at the Classic Toy Trains(CTT) Forum, so come on over.
To answer your question, YES, if a locomotive will run on 031 curves, it will run on 036, or any other curve diameter greater than 031. Just an FYI, in case you didn’t know, in the 3 Rail world, curves are measured in DIAMETER, rather than RADIUS, as they are in MOST other scales.

Also, that diameter is measured differently for different track systems. For Fasttrack, for example, it is measured between the center rails; so the Fasttrack radius, as measured by the rest of the world, is truly 18 inches. For tubular track, it is to the outside of the ties (approximately). So the actual radius of O27, for example, is 12 1/2 inches. The actual radius of O31 (also called O30) is about 14 1/8 inches.
Hey Challenger3960 -
What forum is THIS ?

Obviously this thread HAS BEEN MOVED, by a moderator, to where it belongs, it STARTED on the Model Railroader Forum. Moderators will sometimes move a thread to a more APPROPRIATE Forum, as seems to have been the case here. Another common move is when someone, usually new to the forums posts a thread about O-Gauge(or S scale) on the CLASSIC TRAINS rather than here on the CLASSIC TOY TRAINS forum.
