track humming

hello everyone i have a question im running fasttrac from lionel and i have a humming noise commin from the track it self and im running a 80 watt transformer and i have 2 connections to it top level and bottom level. should i just use on power connect or two its a 5x18 ft layout ive read the mags and its telling me for a big layout use 2 power connections but i think its small to mediam please help me i dont want a fire or ruin non of my trains on this layout thanks chad from pittsburgh pa.

Try to trace down the humming noise, as that is a bad connection that is electrically sparking(trying to bridge a gap electrically) or you may have the wires hooked up wrong and have a shorting condition.

I had a small layout of Fastrac before I sold it at a train show in Deerfield Beach FL. The size of my layout was 3 ft. by 9 ft. with an MTH Z-1000 transformer, and I needed to have two power hook-ups to it, I was using ten inch straights with 036 curves. For your layout I recommend four power hook-ups, one power hook-up about every fifth section of track, even with Fastrac.
