Track Inspection Engine

A few years ago, I had asked about track inspection engines… the steam engines that looked like they were covered with a passenger car body. At that time, someone had posted a link or two that had several pictures of these rather rare beasts. I can’t find them again.

I’ve searched “track inspection engine” and “track inspection locomotive” but neither one turns up what I’m looking for. Were they called something else?

It seems to me that the link was to a web site that had quite a few locomotive pictures and this type of locomotive was in a category all by itself.

Thanks in advance for your help in getting me “unlist.”

“Inspection Engine” is the proper term in identifying these but finding groupings of photos of them is difficult. Most roads had only one example of this type of “engine” and they were common only over a relative short era around the turn of the last century. It’s generally best to seach specific railroad historical society sites to find photos of them and to choose mostly northeastern roads at that.
