Does anyone make a track nailing stapler similar to what Kadee sold years ago?
What was the disadvantage to the Kadee version?
Thanks ----- John T.

Do you mean the rail spiker?? If so, I think the answer is no. They turn up on ebay from time to time though, and fetch a pretty penny… Kadee still makes and will continue to make the spikes for them… They also have parts but no longer make most of them… You MAY be able to buy the parts to put one together… There really isn’t a lot to it. I don’t think they’ve sold a complete spiker in 20 years… Spikes and parts are avialable for codes 70, 83, and 100… Most useful of course for HO scale but could be used for N (code 70), S, and probably O narrow gauge…
In using mine, I don’t think I’ve found a real disadvantage. It doesn’t work for everything though, some pliers in hand spiking will still be required if you intend to get into it. Things like turnout and crossing frogs, it (the gun) doesn’t spike on angles very well, and of course, the price (if you can find one)… I don’t consider any of those real disadvantages, just annoyances that have to be gotten use to if I want to use the gun.

You got to be kidding me. I saw one of those at the Whitby train show for 10 bucks. I should have picked it up.
A friend had a Kadee spiker. Worked good on most track, but you really needed to ‘hand spike’ around turnouts. The other thing was you need to adjust the pressure, you can ‘crush’ wood ties if you are not careful.
My understanding is that the product was withdrawn due to a potential for product libility(you can really shoot the staples some distance). Kadee ‘sold’ you the ‘parts’ so you could build the machine. At this time I do not think you can build a complete unit as they do not have all of the parts.

I thought from your post that Kadee was selling one on ebay… The bin is $275 (too high for what’s offered)… The guy is trying to justify his price. I’ve seen complete setups with all the parts for 70,83, and 100 go for as much as $500 however…
The ones with the adjustment are original production models… That is, the adjustment was required in order to prevent the gun from driving the spikes through the railbase or kinking the rail… Later, they fixed that problem with a different spring and discarded the adjustment screw. Newer ones won’t have it… That is what Kadee told me 8 or 9 years ago when I bought mine (used, for $100 and worth every penny to me).
