Track Planning Software

Hi, I’m new to the forum as of today. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions of an easy to use track planing software. I use Atlas O sectional track.

Thanks.

Hello! Welcome to the Classic Toy Train forum.

The most popular track planning software is “RR TRACK”. It’s easy to use and still has many advanced features. You can buy the basic package and add various libraries, such as accessories, as you need.

I think the website is “RRTRACK.COM”. If that does not work, just put RR TRACK in a google search and it will pop up.

Again, welcome and enjoy the hobby.

Go to the Atlas web page and download their freeware program. When first designing your layout I would suggest using graph paper to start no matter which software you choose. Then use the software to figure out the track you need and to make modifications.

Each program has a learning curve.

RR-Track is fairly easy. The Atlas Freeware is OK but you can’t add accessories from Lionel and MTH (you need these to get the clearances right). There are some that prefer the graph paper route, but I found RR-Track to work best for me. It is fairly easy for simple layouts, but if you are doing grades and multiple levels it can be challenging. Patience is your best virtue if you decide to go with RR-Track.

If you need help with it, email me.
