Track Power

We are thinking of putting a suspended loop of G around a room. I have an old (working) MRC Tech II 1500 power pack no longer being used for HO. Would it work to power a G train for this? The total length of the track is about 50 feet. Thanks for any help!

Yes, that would be sufficient power for what you have in mind. On level track with a small loco pulling maybe 5 or 6 cars, the Tech will do you well. Anything larger, multiple motor locos, heavy grades and long trains for example, then no, you should think about upgrading to something more powerful.

If you decide to run accessories or anything other than the one loco, then think about a larger pack.

BTW, what are you planning on running anyway? Theme train or just eye candy? Please share!

Thank you for your reply! For now we will just be running a 3 to 4 car train with switcher and caboose that we picked up at a local MR swap meet. I didn’t feel the need to spend a couple hundred on a more powerful made for G power pack for this “short line” if it wasn’t necessary. Thanks again, Bill

If that doesn’t do, the garden variety $40 G power supply will run that train for you.

Don’t forget send pictures.

During one of our HO scale club’s open houses a couple of years ago, a member ran a G-scale train outdoors for 2 days using an MRC power pack, with no overheating or overloading problems.
