Good day

You may know already that I rescued a 2-6-0, repaired and repainted it.

Well, we had a problem, the front truck wanted to leave the track all the time. I couldn’t figure what was wrong with my track laying. I couldn’t get my eyes close enough to the track to see.
My solution was to layout a #4 turnout with a short extension at eye level. I could see the inside wheel lift as it tried to negotiate the turn. Found out the wide copper strip someone before me had installed to provide pickup from the front axle would not let the axle swing wide enough. Trimmed both sides and bingo it works.

I’m sure all the experienced modelers know this “trick” but I didn’t.

Not necessarily.

Each locomotive will have it’s own set of problems. To find them, we all go through what you just did. We are glad that you found the problem and your loco runs fine now.

Always good to hear these little tidbits. Never know when we are going to have a problem and BINGO something comes to mind that we saw on the forums however long ago.
