track question??

can steel track be used with brass track?

Absolutely, provided you make allowances for any profile difference if they are of different shape and sizes.

Sure, you can mix and match any type of track (such as nickel silver, brass, and steel alloy) in your layout just fine. For large scale trains, there are also aluminum and stainless steel track options, plus plastic track (if your train is battery powered). But for the smaller scales, like HO and N scales, most track now is nickel silver. In the old days, most people used brass track, because it was the most available and the cheapest. But the brass track develops oxidation, which is not conductive to electricity - requiring brass track to be cleaned more often. The oxidation of the brass track will impede electrical flow, if not regularly cleaned. I have found that I don’t need to clean nickel silver as often. Another benefit with nickel silver track is even though it also oxidizes, the oxidation of nickel silver actually does conduct electricity. Steal track does not require as much cleaning as nickel silver track, but it can rust if subjected to moisture.

Other then that, yes you can use steel track with brass track. Hope this helps.

Yes, but I wouldn’t use either. Stick with Nickle Silver.
