I am currently looking to replace my old track with an upgrade to the Gargraves Flex Track with the wood ties, product # 101. I am not familiar with this track, can anyone recommend it as a good product with good reliabilty. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
well you are doing the same thing i just did. i just tore down my whole layout of fastrack and now in the process of replacing all with gargraves flex track. from my experience with it the past couple of weeks is great. it conforms to any radius you want, but be careful not to bend the track to far as you will put a dent in the track and thats no good for you or the track. i would go with it and learn what you can do with the track as you work with it. good luck. you can check out my work that i have done since the switch over. the post is called “here goes”. i havent had the mishap of bending the track to far all i can say is good luck
Thanks for the insite, seems like you are headed in the right direction. I am currently using the K-Line shadow track, it works OK but it doesn,t have much realism to it. I was planning on changing the two main loops on main table and eventually changing over everything. I used the flex track on a layout I built for a hospital I work at but this was a very simple track plan with no switchs. Are you using the ross switches, do they work well? Thanks agin.
yes im using ross switches and i do not have power running to them yet . from what i’ve heard about these switches there suppose to be the best but i want know until i have power hooked up to them.
Trainman, I currently have GarGraves track, GarGraves track looks nice and works great until you have a locomotive derailment, GarGraves track is a little softer than tubular track or Fastrac. Other features of GarGraves track is that the curves come in a greater variety than most other track systems, also you can get stainless steel track by GarGraves. The other draw back with GarGraves track is that you may have to order the wide radius curves and switches as most hobby shops don’t keep a lot of GarGraves in stock. Gargraves uses DZ industries switch machines. I was able to order stuff easier from Ross Custom switches website than from DZ industries, this is if you are looking for the DZ 1000 or DZ 1025 switch machine or relay. Lee F.
well the reason is you can do more with the flex track as it bends and forms to any radius you want. i say with ease. i love the noise it makes coming down the track as in real life trains are not quiet on the tracks either. the rest of the track sale. pm me or email me if you are interested
Reggie, Did I understand you correctly, you are replacing all of your Fastrack with Gargraves FLEX Track? Was there a reason you did not use Gargraves Prefabricated Curves.
If I ever changed my track out, I was thinking I would use the 0-42 Gargraves Track.
Unless you are planning fire sale prices to a friend on your FasTrack, I would recommend putting it up for sale on eBay. It’s going for more than list, + shipping. It might cover your expense of switching to GarGraves.
i’ve already got my track at the house already paid for. but i’m trying to sale the fastrack all if i can. the prefabricated curves are set to that radius so thats like me still using the fastrack. you cant bend it if you need to. using the flex you can bend and conform to any radius you want if you bend to far you can bend it back to the radius you need. so far i’m pleased with my decision of switching to fastrack, plus i wouldnt have been happy with the fastrack knowing in my mind i could get more track in the space that i have to model with. if any of you guys are interested in the fastrack pm or email me and we can negotiate a price for all or some of it.
