Track Spacing

What is a safe centerline spacing between tracks in HO scale? I am only using short equipment, but I have some 18" curves and I am concerned about overhang causing problems.

Thanks,

jack

on the tangents (straights) 2" to 2-1/4" between track centers should do fine, you’ll want 2-1/2" or more in a yard (for movements that necessitate the 0-5-0)

on curves 2-1/2" to about 3" should be pretty good, although with 18" curves, depending on the overhang you might want to go a little more- best bet would be to get a few sections of the 18" track (assuming you have sectional track), and see how close together they can be without causing problems.

It depends on the equipment you’re running, but 2 1/2 inches should do it for short equipment, 3 if it’s a little longer. See this page on NMRA’s web site http://www.nmra.org/standards/s-8.html

Enjoy
