I’m getting pretty far along with laying track and have spurs to several industries laid so for a change of pace I weathered some track. This was my first weathering effort. I was real pleased with how it looked althought it was fairly tedious work. After doing a fair amount I took some pictures. I have WPF in the future on my mind so I want it to be right. Well, they say the camera doesn’t lie and the pictures say I didn’t do so good. Is it unusal to have to do several coats?? I used Apple Barrel acrylic paint with a micro brush.

I recently weathered my first turntable. You could hardly see the weathering in pictures. I had to go back over it twice and add darker weathering to get it to look good in the pics.
A camera can “lie” in a photo. Colors change with the lighting, using a flash or not, type of flim or resolution if digital, and a host of other things. There are very competant photographers on this web site that should be able to give you a lot more information than I possibly can. I’ve taken lots of photos with my digital camera of both models and full size trains, and often the colors certainly are NOT what I know them to be. What’s more important is if you are building for yourself, or for photography. If for yourself, then why worry? The WPF is keyed on the “FUN” part and I don’t think anybody will be too harsh on you, after all you are building something and willing to share.
Your building and photography skills will grow over time, but you’ve got to keep practicing and sharing your results.

Thanks for some really good thoughts. I tried a darker color and used a real small brush instead of the micro and got much better results. The mico just wasn’t holding enough paint in my opinion. Also I tried experimenting with the camera and did get better pictures but I still need to redo the first effort. I’ll be posting pictures when I have something to show and I’m not adverse to criticism, constructive or othewise. I use the pictures on WPF for enjoyment and to inspire me to put forth extra effort.and not be satisfied with some thing I can really do better.
