Is there a way to track UP Locos Online, I had asked a question on a certain Loco on Trainorders.com and within minutes he knew where it was heading…

Some of the MAC90’s and AC6000’s have GPS. The rest is by time table and reports at crew change points.

Good morning,
UP RR, and most of the others used to have a “public trace” on their website. You could enter a unit ID and get the last siting report. I used to use it to track the 3985, 844 and the Exec E’s. Post 9-11, the RR’s have gotten concerned about that being mis-used and have moved a lot of their tools to secured access. (i.e. need to have a password.) I have the good fortune (somedays more of a mis-fortune) of being a customer to many of the RR’s and have trace access for most, so I can still look up stuff. The AAR or IANA have a website called SteelRoads.com which used to be known as NetRedi. It combines tracing data for most RR’s to one site. I think it however requires that a RR “sponsor” you to get acccess.[8D]
