Trackside Contruction CN Just West Kenner LA

Does anyone know what the construction crossing the CN / City of New Orleans at the west end of the Bonnet Carree spillway?

It is visible from I-10, just east of the junction with I-55.

Could you determine what kind of construction ? Rail, road, water, dike, levee, bridge, other ?

So far, pile driving, some kind of temporary bridging over the track.

Visible from I-10 EB, mile 212.2…

At the last observation, it appears that there “might be” some sort of thru girder for the track, with the A-frame above…

Regarding CN’s 2.2 mile rebuild of bridge (trestle) over the Bonnet Carre spillway, I passed by on Monday, 12/7/20 & observed that the construiction was very nearly complete,

A new, parallel structure, entirely concrete piers & decking was laid with track and, on the north (west) end a switch was in place. I was unable to observe any signaling equipment…

Has anyone (Paul of Covington, perhaps) observed any traffic on the new tracks & structure?

It will be good to hear what you learn. My observations were limited to what I could see from the I-10 EB, just east of the merge with I-55.

Once this bridge is complete and in operation we should see the end of the 10 MPH slow order ? As well and more importantly no more cancellations of the CNO when the Bonnie Carrier spillway is opened ?

One would certainly hope for those results…

All construction of concrete (new) vs almost entirely treated timbers…

Saturday, on our trip to visit family in Harahan, LA I again saw what appears to be a completed, parallel, bridge, with ?high speed? switch on the west/north end.

One additional thought occurs; might CN leave the old timber bridge in place as a long siding?

On recent trip to New Orleans from Baton Rouge, using I-10, we saw demolition of the old timber trestle.

Does anyone know what the new track speed for this portion of the line between New Orleans & Hammond might be?

Since the bridge pilings are in soft soil might there be a graduated increase of train speeds ? There may be some uneven settleing of the bridge members much like what is happening on I-10 over the A basin.

But yet, there is a track speed currently in effect…
