Trackside Vol. 211 "Reflections" is LIVE

Good morning!

There are six submissions in this week’s photo contest. Check them out here: http://trn.trains.com/Trackside/2013/05/Vol%20211%20features%20photographs%20of%20trains%20and%20their%20reflections.aspx

Who do you think did the best job showcasing reflections?

They are all great and all reflect (pun intended) to portray the specified topic. Tom Nano’s is the most unique being night, steam, and reflection.

In honor of Mike Yuhas’ return (in a way) to Trackside, I picked his shot. Oh…I thought it was good enough, too.

I went with Tom’s shot, in part because it evoked the images of O. Winston Link.

Michael Harding, though, deserves a very strong honorable mention, for literally having turned the theme on it’s side.

It was indeed a difficult choice this week.

I really like Tom’s steam shot; it almost looks like an incredibly accurate and detailed painting. But in the end I chose Michael’s image due to his slightly unique perspective.

The pristine water reflection shots are gorgeous, and I really liked the Tom Nanos submission…BUT…(and with me, there’s always some bone of contention)…they’re so common that I opted to go with the reflection of the train in the coach windows captured by Michael Harding. I didn’t expect it to fare all that well in the voting, and noticed that it didn’t (after I cast my vote)…but that’s beside the point. It’s different, dramatic, and worthy of a trophy.

I can’t make up my mind. I could eliminate one or two but the rest are pretty much equal, and all fitting the theme. So, I’ll abstain from voting this time.

Those were my thoughts, too. The water reflection shots are beautiful, but recognizing and shooting the reflection in the train windows took some imagination. I voted for Michael Harding’s photo.

All good photos…& stayed on theme. I liked the steam too, but I voted for Mikes.
