LION choose the reader submission.
LION also sees that HIS submission did not make your list.
LION will make his submission HERE:
Four out of six work great to the topic…so I picked Tom Nanos’ if only because I mis-voted last week instead of giving him the vote then.
I chose Tom’s shot. Seemed the most colorful of those that were entered.
Here’s my submission:
Dan, you understand that there are so many Reader submissions that it is a choice by chance more then on the pic itself. Doesn’t mean that your shot was not worth being chosen, just that it wasn’t this time. I’ve submitted several over the years and had one chosen last week…in my opinion it was not the best of the bunch that I submitted, nor the most interesting that I submitted. But it was chosen. I submitted an interesting shot this week, too, and it wasn’t chosen. Maybe next time I submit it will get chosen. Maybe not. Just keep sending 'em in, don’t be discouraged or shy.
Henry,
I realize that tons of folks send shots in. I was just joining Lion in throwing the “also ran” out there for folks to see. That’s all. Thanks for the words of encouragement though.
The fact that they are just chosen at random, even if they barely fit the theme, is discouraging.
I won’t bother.
None of them really knocked my socks off, but I finally chose the Michael Harding submission because it best complied with the “tree framed” guideline.
Tom in Nashville
I will choose the Tom Nanos shot this time (full framing is pretty good, and even in the proper shape for a frame!), though I like Dan’s shot and would happily write it in, if I could.
There’s “surrounded by trees”, and there’s “framed by trees”. I know what framing is, even if I’m a non-photographer. Some of the contest shots really shouldn’t have been there…
Bit more difficult this time round. Settled on Tom’s, probably the sub got me ;}
Micheal H was next in line.
Two questions:
(1). What is the file format that is accepted submission to “Trackside with Trains” photos.
(2). What happens to reader’s submissions not chosen?
JD,
Sorry for the late reply. JPGs are the acceptable file format. We store the reader submissions that aren’t chosen, keeping them available for any future trackside challenges.
Thanks,
Drew
Are the submission requirements the same as for the magazine as far as size or is reduction to a size more suitable for online use OK? What about tonal adjustments?
Thanks,
Glenn
Drew,
Thank you, one further question, no actually two. 1) How long do you keep them for future trackside challenges? and 2) Is there any chance that they might be considered for regular publication use?
Best regards,
Jonathan
