Funny thing about these four shots. I liked them all, yet I didn’t really like any of them.

Each had something intriguing about it, yet none was a standout.#### When I finally quit spinning my mental wheels, my vote went to Matt Martin because the SD-40-2 was the sole subject of his photo.#### Tom in Nashville

…After checking each photo, I come away voting for Tom Nanos’ shot.

Like it’s clear sharp image, and the deep blue colors give it a certain mood.

I judged the photo on it’s composition, clearity, deep colors and of course it has the qualifying SD40-2, as all the photos do.

A photo does not do a SD40-2 justice.

A job I worked used a pair of SD40-2s to pull heavy cuts of loads up a grade in a yard to switch them out.

Nothing like having two screaming SD40-2s barely moving, wheels just at the edge of going in an all-out spin, giving it everything it is worth. The ground shakes with that low rumble that was only found with those engines. And for real fun, there was a bridge over part of the yard ladder. Being under there with the SD40-2s was quite the experience. Noise amplified, and the exhaust would bounce off the bridge and envelope you.

Yeah, sorry, no photo can do that experience justice.

Is the Brian Schmidt I voted for the same Brian Schmidt whose name is at the head of the thread?

The main characteristic of the SD40-2s from a photographic standpoint (not discrediting your experiences, Zug) is those huge porches on both ends. The snoot takes it away in some cases, but this was a good shot showing that. Blow it up so we see more of the unit and less other stuff!

Matt’s is the one that jumped out at me first which tends to be how I vote of things…
