Trackside with Trains, vol. 221 grain

Alex Mayes shot is actually of an E/b “grainless” near Murdock, and it’s symbol would have been X-TAC___, or possibly X-LVW___ or X-VAW___ (for Tacoma, Longview, or Vancouver, WA - last three spaces would be destination terminal). His position was in the vicinity of 49° 39’ 26" N x 121° 11’ 53’ W looking NNW (downriver, Columbia R. to Lt.), w/BNSF ES-44DC #7647/C44-9W #4872 by M/p 89 on BNSF NorthWest Division’s Fallbridge Subdivision, about 4 miles W/b from North Dalles. “Dallesport” was another four miles E/b from latter, located along former (original, c.1907) SP&S alignment seen as trail between power and river (relocated alignment used by BNSF dates from The Dalles dam construction c.1952 - “Dallesport” was just downstream from dam itself). Nearest area of grain growing from there’s about 6 1/2 mi. SSE, above The Dalles, Oregon, which also has a grain elevator shipping facility between S side of UP’s Portland subdivision main and E 2nd St. (old U.S.No.30), about a block E of Taylor St. on NE side of town.

A fine image for all that, and voted for it, although Mathieu Tremblay’s very nice “cliff-hanging” post-flood shot of E/b CP “grainless” along Bow River W-of Exshaw, Alberta CANADA is well in lead.
