I’ve looked all over for traction tires-i need some for my Rivarossi FEF-3. The old ones wore and broke off, leaving the engine “crippled.” [:(] I’ve searched on ebay and other websites, but no traction tires. It needs the tires, for it can’t even pull it’s own weight (even without the tender). Any advice will be appreciated.[:)]
Walthers is the distributor for Rivarossi. If you don’t have much luck there Stewart makes traction tires for all sizes and shapes but I’d try Walthers first

I got these at the local hobbie shop a few days ago. I have a Digital Rivarossi Big Boy that won’t get out of it’s own way without them. IMO they work great.
Walthers is out of stock, and i can’t find a search thing on Stewart Hobbies. There is a model railroad club that has a gift shop-which is where i bought my Big Boy, which is mentioned in my other topic posted. He sells (if he still does) lots of Rivarossi, Bachmann, and maybe Athearn stuff, but if he doesn’t have the traction tires, I don’t know what to do. Thanks anyway.
Stewart Products (see pacage in previous post) is not the same company as Stewart Hobbies (manufacturer of locomotives, now owned by Bowser).
Here’s the link for Stewart Products on the Walthers site:
http://www.walthers.com/exec/search?quick=traction+tires&quicksrch_butt.x=14&quicksrch_butt.y=7
If you give Walthers or MR magazine a call they might be able to give you the address for the company. Or go through some MR mags - they have had ads there fairly often
Also, try a search here for Riv. parts. I remember someone mentioning a hobby shop that has the largest supply of Riv. parts in the US.
Try any of the following:
http://www.1splacehobbies.com
http://www.discounttrainsonline.com or
http://www.showmelines.com/
also just a thought check out the local dentist they have differnt size rubber rings for brasis ,could help
Carl…
I found a link to an online hobby store… they have traction tires listed in their “in-stock” section…
Try Golf Manor Hobbies in Cinncinati their website is: www.GOLFMANORHOBBIES.com (they are extremely slow for answering email) or hpone them at (513) 351-3849 3pm-9pm EST. Theyhave a lot of older Rivarossi/AHM parts so they might be able to set you up with traction tires.
UP,
If you can’t find them email me and we can work something out. I can send you out a box ASAP. I’ll get them from the hobbie shop here.
I just received some traction tires for a Riv Hudson from Golf Manor and the quality is horrible. The tires are to wide, they don’t fit in the recesses of the drivers, and they’re to thick, maybe 3x thicker then the originals. I’m considering replacing the traction drivers with regular ones.
Stewart Product’s (who made tires) has been sold to TOMAR INDUSTRIES. Tomar will eventually remanufacture. Better get your order in.
I’m good for now guys. Thanks for the help. I found (actually, my dad did) a box of old (?) Stewart traction tires at a train show over the weekend. I half expected them to be black, but they were clear! I have put them on my FEF-3, but I have not gotten a chance to run the loco yet.
An advantage to the clear tires is ya can’t see 'em, but they’re there. They fit just fine, and I expect the FEF-3 to pull my passenger cars, including some old Rivarossi cars (five of them for the price of one of the newer ones!)
Thanks for all the help. When I use up the box I have, I’ll use these links to get more.
Be advised that Rivarossi has used two DIFFERENT sizes of tires on their different sized flange drivers. Just learned that one two days ago.
