If a traction tire breaks, can you still run the engine without shorting something out? I know you will lose traction but can you still run the engine safely without the tire ?
Shorting is not the issue in most cases. The problem is the groove in the tire/wheel for the traction tire to rest in. Once the traction band is gone, that groove is likely to get snagged at turnouts and elsewhere.

I wonder if any brave soul has tried to fill those grooves with Bull Frog Snot…yet.
I used Bull Frog Snot on two of my Rivarossi Cab Forwards to replace the traction tires. It took several attempts to get the correct depth but it works. I wouldn’t use it on a driver with out the tire grove, it really doesn’t do much on a regular wheel. Causes more problems than it’s worth.

Lots of replacement traction tires out there in a number of gauges as well. Note a couple traction tire repalcement tools also.
