tragedy - need glue advice

I knocked the bell off my Broadway Limited Mikado. What glue will hold it on?

Sounds like a job for ACC (superglue) I’d recommend the gel types and don’t apply it right from the tube but place a small dab on a scrap of styrene then apply it to the bell with a tooth pick or even a pin point… less is better!

I would either use superglue or a dab of epoxy if you broke the stem off if I was going to glue it. You will probably knock it off again though. best way would be to see if you can pu***he stem out of the hole and either replace it with a brass bell or another one from BLI.

I’ve had good luck with the Lok-Tite gel CA… Got some at Home Depot. I just like the squeeze bottle type applicator it has - it is very responsive to how hard or soft you squeeze, but never comes squirting out like a hose…

Of course, in this particular application, I would follow gmpullman’s advice on how to actually apply the glue. Less is better.

the above is correct…one thing you don’t want to use for small parts is the new “Gorilla Glue”…which i found out about the hard way…when gorilla glue dries, it foams everywhere…i ruined a load and a flat car by using the stuff because as it dried, this ugly yellow foam seeped out from under the load and foamed all over the deck of the flatcar…chuck

Make sure when you use CA to clean the parts first as the CA will give off vapours that can and will adhere to dirt and oil and even finger print impressions causing a white haze to develop around the area the glue was applied to.

Did you knock the whole bell and bracket out of the slot? If so, stick it in the slot and a little dab of testor’s on the back side should do it. If you broke the bracket or bell, I’d try Superglue… just a bit.

I’ve had good luck with Testors Liquid Cement (CA).

If all else fails, then check for a replacement detail part in brass. Detail West, Cal Scale, etc. should have a match.

Testors Liquid Cement is NOT CA. It is a solvent system that welds styrene.

Who did your logo? I like the Lighthouse. I’m modelling the Southampton-Sag Harbor and Montauk line of the LIRR and want to put the lighthouse in the center

Why glue it at all? Just create a scene with a couple of miniature railfans hauling it off into the weeds!

I would go one step further: Use a 10-power glass and an Indian twist drill to carefully bore a # 76 hole into the sheared tab and the bell. Insert a small piece of .020" wire or plastic rod. Dry fit to insure that everything is flush. THEN use the CA.
