[:(] We had a terrible, tragic train accident down in McCreary Co., just above the Tennessee border yesterday morning. It was a single engine train pulling 66 cars, and going about 45 mph. Crossing had flashers, but no gate. Authorities said she should have seen the train coming.
A woman was driving her daughter & granddaughter to school, when her car was hit by a NS train. She was still in her pajamas. Apparently, they had overslept and she was hurring to get the girls to school on time.
Needless to say, the 2 train crew members were devastated! One remembers the lady looking right at the train just before it hit her car. They had applied the brakes, but the car was hit anyway.
Everyone, please say a prayer for the family of these three. They are going to need all the prayers they can get to get throught this terrible, tragic time.
I’m assuming, but even if a person is sleepy, typical Class 1 railroad locomotives equipped with modern horns like the K5La or the S3 ARE INCREDIBLY LOUD!! I wonder if she was distracted and didn’t realize that she was crossing the tracks, or if she simply tried to beat the train.
A prayer for the grief stricken family as well as the train crew.
Just the other day I was railfanning at a level crossing. As a big CP coal train was comming down the line, the lights went on and the arms down, and behind me I see this big pickup truck speeding down the road like there was no tomorrow.
Without a seemingly second thought the guy zoomed 'round the arms and was off to the other side. Making it by about 10 seconds or so.
I was amazed that people still do this, after seeing pictures and video clips of these crossings go wrong I’m always carefull when it comes to crossings regardless of whether the lights are going or not.
Really sad! The family and the crew of the train are in my prayers. I just wish people would stop trying to beat trains to grade crossings. So many lives could be saved if people would use some common sense!
We lost a good driver to an Amtrack train doing 77mph like this years ago at a crossing near Michigan City Ind. that sounds simular to this one. It’s never a good thing to hear that something like this has happend. They are all in our prayers , This is something that will affect the whole community also. “GOD BLESS ALL”
" Hi Antonio " , Some vehicles are so air tight that even the loudest horns are hard to hear , add a radio & that makes it even harder . I keep my window cracked a little because the cab of my truck is so quiet with the windows shut that it’s almost impossible to hear a train until it’s right on top of you.
