Train attack by teenagers

Dekruiff,

Post this on the TRAINS forum as well. Some of those guys keep on top of railroad related news. Perhaps one of them will have more details.[;)]

they should tie them thugs to the front of the train and let the enginers thro bricks at them at full speed ! frank

I just did that. I’ll see what we get.

I agree with you here. I have always thought that, engine crews should be allowed to carry a hand gun, or knife, if they so choose. Of course, restrictions can and should be placed by the railroad as to “what type”. I do wonder if some employees carry some form of a wepon weather it’s a dagger, or just a regular knife regardless. I also don’t understand why some airline pilots are allowed to carry a hand gun but, over the road crews on locomotives are not?

Well in regards to the teenagers…they need to be convicted.

This reminds me of an incident two or 3 weeks ago… i was railfanning down at my local grade crossing, when a police officer pulled up and called me over to his car, he asked me if I had been throwing rocks at trains, fair enough…he then just asked me a few Q’s and asked if i had seen any kids around throwing rocks, apparently one had hit the front of a commuter train and cracked the glass on the front… he went on his way… but it made me feel like people think all teens are bad…also because the area i go isn’t fenced, sometimes people waiting at the lights for a train, hang out the window and tell me to “just jump” implying i’m there to jump in front of the train…[censored]

This type of crime isn’t specific to the US, we get it in the UK too. Many of our urban footpath bridges over rail lines have “safety fencing” which goes right up over the top of the walkway. It happens on highway overpasses too, last year we had a fatality on a Motorway near here when some kids threw a concrete fence post off a bridge.

Unfortunately, very true. On the other hand if the rail companies could actually start working with the railfans they might avoid a few more incidents like these.

Quote boxcar_jim:“On the other hand if the rail companies could actually start working with the railfans they might avoid a few more incidents like these.” Recently BNSF has tried such a program where with registration you are provided a contact number and some sort of identification for railfans to contact BNSF if they notice suspicious activity. Unfortunately, it won’t help get inncoent railfans off the hook of the railroad police.

We had some little sh**'s throw a rock at us and break one of the windows on the W24, our combination/bar caqr to our execuive buisness car…, coulda been way worse.

And as far as handguns go, what goo would that do? Some kids throw a rock at you, what are you gonna do, shoot them?! If so, you are really sick, and I am saddened by our older generation being so VIOLENT, tying kids to tracks, throwing rocks etc…DISGRACEFUL MY GAWD!

If you think about it, its not the kids fault, most cases its the PARENTS fault, which would be the older generation…

Sorry, couldn’t let that one pass. Yes, some parents are much less involved in teaching their children right from wrong, but I get really tired of blame shifting. EVERY individual, teenagers included, has control over his or her actions. NO 14-year-old of sound mind can think it’s a right and honorable thing to throw bricks at a train. These kids (the bad ones) CHOOSE to knowingly do the wrong thing. Even my 4-year old knows it’s wrong to throw things at other people because hurting people is bad.

Pardon my cynicsm, but some days it seems like some of us Americans have forgotten how to accept personal responsibility for our own actions. It’s easier to blame Mommy, Daddy, or TV than to take a good, hard look at ourselves and our occasional bad choices.
