Train Christmas gift exchange....

I wonder, since our kind host do not prevent one form giving away a train, if they would allow us to set up a thread tath would allow us to freely exchange train gifts amungst our selves we got but don’t want for something someone go that they don’t want?

There would be rules: no money to change hands {selling is forbidden}, Trading ONLY and MRRder and its forum would be “no hold responsible”.

How about it moderators?

Could it work or flop?

… A Trading Post for members/subscribers only. No vendors.

MRRder he wrote!

I was still half asleep! [zzz] [|)] MRR suits just fine.[:-^]

Exactly. A trading post of sorts, TO help exchange out those gifts the family thought were nice or worse yet “KEY-Yute” {“Cute”}, but don’t fit into the modeler’s scheme… EVeryone would pay whatever postage required to send to the other ONLY and no money changing hands so no selling! Trading only!

Just an idea…If the moderators approve!

{MAy flop as someone may want to trade a Bachmann DCC OnBoard loco for a MTH DCS and that woudln’t work- now you watch and see.}

The decision on your proposal maybe above the Moderators pay grade but they maybe able to bring it to those who can get it approved. Kalmbach might need to be approached about the idea and would obviously have final say in the matter.

A Whistle Stop Trading Post… Hmmm. Not a bad idea. Members of the forum only, no professional vendors (that could be a sticky definition, but do able), no money other than actual shipping costs. Sounds like a good idea.

Now, how to get people to NOT sign up just to trade as a trader, or keep vendors from disguising themselves. That shouldn’t be too awful hard, most vendors want to make a profit but some may want an item. That may not present too much of a problem. It could be a Forum title such as General Discussion, Layouts and Layout building etc. It would probably be just a list of items someone wants to trade really, the bulk of the transactions would be handled through PM’s er, I mean “conversations” I’d think. Just have to make sure the listings are kept current through the edit feature.

Kalmbach could put a Post in first saying they are in no way involved with the transactions other than providng a place for people to notify each other instead of putting it into the General Discussion Forum on occasion as some have in the past.

I see no problem with it myself. Kinda neighborly actually.

Easy to help avoid the vendors {who remember still must TRADE for something} is to limit trades per member of record to 3-5 items.

FOr example I got two boxcars for xmas that are duplicates to ones i already have. One is a C&O and one is a B&O, So I would like to swap for something in the RRcar line I DON’T have. in my very popular liveries. Maybe a B&O coal car, or a D&H {I collect them} Caboose, or something to that effect.

It would ONLY be for Xmas, All Transactions COMPLETED by Jan 31, and ONLY for trades of unwanted BRAND NEW items for wanted BRAND NEW items. Limit 3-5 trades per EXISTING member of record as of DEC 1, 2010, MUST BE NEW IN BOX Unused, and INTACT items as they came in the gifts that are unwanted or duplicates like mine. NO MONEY changing hands -you pay shipping to ship your trade to me, and I pay shipping to send my trade to you.

Maybe could work. MAybe not, Maybe Moderators/Kalmbach Nix the idea.

Justa thought.

What a capital idea! I’d like to trade my Y6b for some small green portrait of Benjamin Franklin and a couple portraits of Alexander Hamilton, plus shipping of course… [:-^]

Nope no money, and you pay shipping to ship it to the recipient, and the recipient pays shipping to you.

Although I do have a portrait of Ben frankiln, and I think I have one Of Good ol’ alex in his duel mode…now if I can find another of alex {maybe anothe duel protrait} I will mail them to you and gladly take your Y6b!

You could always post that you want to change possession of an item with someone and do the rest over private messages. [I]

It will never work, and I am sure Kalmback wouldn’t allow it as someone will feel they got jipped or someone will try to pawn off old stuff as new in Box and not recieved this xmas like the idea is.

SO lets leave it alone for now. MAybe it gave Kalmback and idea or two.

We’ll see.

Or you can do like I do, and make a “Wish List” of specific things that I need, that way I never get things that aren’t wanted. My list has items ranging from a few dollars up to the $30 area, includes a brief description, item number and the contact info for the supplier. My wife is the coordinator and shares the list with anyone who inquires.
