train control

I am building a simple oval with a passing track using O31 track and modern O22 switches. I would like to run two trains in different directions and have one train stop on the inner siding where the train on outer siding will then run and visa versa. Can this be done using a single transformer? I am using a MRC pure power and running MTH Loco Sound engines.

It can be done with a single transformer, and I believe the MRC Pure Power is 130 watts. You should be fine with two trains and two switches.

In Peter H. Riddle’s book, “Greenberg’s Wiring Your Lionel Layout, Vol. 2”, chapter 6 covers this exact setup and walks one through how to do it. This chapter includes lots of diagrams of block setup, switch wiring, control devices, etc. that wouldn’t be possible to include in an answer here.

Vol. 1 & 2 of these books have a lot of good information and are good references if you don’t have them. They can be picked up at hobby shops or on-line.

Good luck.

THANKS FOR THE INFO WILL CHECKOUT THOSE BOOKS
