Just wanted to let any Buckeyes who may not have known or maybe forgot that the Great Train Expo is this weekend at the Columbus Expo center. There’s sure to be lots of stuff you never knew you needed and maybe, just maybe, something you’ve been looking for but forgot. I’m planning a day long excursion there but won’t know which day it is until that day. I’m waiting for the Greatest Hobby show coming in the beginning of January, really interested in the big hype.
I went to the Train Expo at LA County Fairgrounds in Los Angeles area. I had a great time. $7 to get in no problem but $9 to park hurts. The fair grounds has a huge perminate G gauge layout 100’ x 300’ There were numerous modular layouts including a large Z scale. Ive been out of the hobby for years and thought Z was kind of a gimmick but this was very functional.

I went down yesterday, and must say I was disappointed. I did pick up a couple of tools and some detail items, but overall there were not as many vendors as in the past. These shows seem to be getting smaller every time. Even some of the usual vendors that I regularly purchase from were not there. Perhaps there was a competing show somewhere that was more attractive to them. The operating layouts were the same ones as always. I thought it would be better considering that it was scheduled shortly before Christmas.
Attendance seemed low as well. May have had something to do with the OSU v. Iowa game, but that wasn’t until late afternoon, and I was home in plenty of time.
