Don’t know where you are located, but just a couple of thoughts.
Are there any clubs or other groups in your area with layouts to display?
For vendors, go to other shows and talk to the ones there. Around here, the larger vendors are at all the shows. There are a few smaller ones that don’t do all of them. I suspect that the different ones have a “milage limit” for size of show. Also, once a show becomes successful, more vendors will be willing to travel further.
There is usually a sponsoring group, most often the local club, but one is a fundraiser, sponsored by a local charity.
I would say some good layouts may be as important as vendors to get you started. Something folks can see and then they become more willing to buy.
Good luck,
Richard
I would like to suggest that you edit your user profile to at least indicate where you are physically located so people who live in your state or general geographical area can offer helpful hints.
Ok didnt think about giving my location im in Corbin Kentucky
Yeah there in lies 1 of the hurdles im having to contend with we have no clubs here in Corbin we are just now opening a Train Museum and our town history is all about trains and KFC there the 2 things were most noted for…as for going to train shows and speaking to others i went to the 1 in Louisville and when i began asking questions alot of the ppl involved acted as if i had the plague…i was thinking about approaching 1 of the financial institutions here that’s entire existence is based on 1 of the rail roads that no longer exists and as im a dealer for almost all the major brands made in the train industry im thinking about asking them for any brochures i might need donated thru them as it would bring them business that’s as far as ive gotten
You could try giving these guys a call:
Thank you i wrote there phone numbers down
Since you are opening a train museum, could a layout be built by a few folks at the museum. It could be the basis for a core group, whether based on model railroading or supporting the museum. Get a few folks involved and they might gain interest in modeling. Might even be able to plan the show as a fundraiser for the museum, then there would be a name associated with the show.
Just my thoughts at the moment,
Richard
i can definitely look into that as a possibility but im not the 1 opening the Museum Corbin tourism board is,i being a dealer and having a small train store specializing in HO scale trains came up with this as an idea to promote trains and the hobby it was then left to me to figure out how to do it and 1s i compile the information can go to the powers that be that can actually put it to work im just the flunky of my own idea lol,and the more i research this the more it looks like i may have bitten off more than i can chew way too much for 1 person that’s for sure
