I’ve already won several-- but the next Darwin award goes to… http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1708298
At least everyone seems to be OK, or at least there is a good chance everyone is OK.
It could have been much worse.
I like how the minivan driver sees what’s about to happen and backs up…almost looks like he gets clipped by the rig afterwards.
How could the semi driver NOT see the signal OR hear the horns-a-blastin’? Maybe on his cell or fumblin’ with his panti-hose?
two explanations:
- He really didn’t see it for whatever reason
- He did see it but made a REALLY bad judgement
By the way, why was the ramp up?
Watch it again, and slow it down.
He zig zags through the gates.
He knew there was a train coming.
He even manages to drive off with one of the gates on the roof of what is left of his trailer.
oh, didn’t catch that.
Well, like I said, it was a bad judgement.
My guess is, he was speeding, and the gates were comming down at a point where he was going too fast and was to close to stop
I think they should put the ramp down much sooner.
Maybe two minutes before the train actually passes. That gives plenty of time for speeding drivers to either brake it and pass through or do such a crazy stunt. .
Or, cause more people to try to cut around the gates, because they dont want to wait that long…[xx(]
What does the crew do when the impact is imminent?
Can’t the media ever report this type of accident as “the truck drove into the path of the train”?
Do you think the van started to reverse because of the truck’s trying to maneuver through the gates or because he/she saw there’d be a collision?
I doubt it, but at least it would be a great protection agains lawsuits.
This way some smartass might decide to sue the RR because it doesn’t give earlier warnings or something.
In my country that is how it is, the gate goes down quite early, and nobody tries to go around.
On a crossing near the station, the gate goes down when the train starts out from the station, which gives it a couple of minutes before it gets to the crossing.
No accidents there.
Even if you are speeding and see it in the last moment, you can’t do such a stunt, because there is already a line of cars in front of you waiting.
What does the crew do when the impact is imminent?
Hit the floor in the middle of the cab behind the collision post & hope they didn’t injest the seat covers.
Can’t the media ever report this type of accident as “the truck drove into the path of the train”?
The media not present a slanted view and state the obvious? Hearst & Menken would roll over in their graves. The lawyer for the trucker probably already was calling the railroad to say they’d sue and the railroad was at fault because the media saw nothing wrong.
Do you think the van started to reverse because of the truck’s trying to maneuver through the gates or because he/she saw there’d be a collision?
At least they did not panic and do something really dumb.
Where, when and what railroad did this take place?

The train hit the wrong end of the rig; That idiot is the type of bad driver that runs down pedestrians and other small stuff, he should be jailed and lose his licence for keeps. We have goons like that here but as most of our level crossings are one or two track, the only things that can zig-zag through half barriers are cars and light vans, when there is a collision, the driver usually cops it, so another idiot is removed from the roads. There is an ongoing programme of replacing all half barrier crossing with four arm type across the UK. After just hearing about the twonks in CA trying it on with the auto makeres over pollution, I guess the trucker will try to take the railroad to law.
Stuttgart, Arkansas on Union Pacific trackage, formerly the Cotton Belt RR. The crossing looks like one near the Riceland Mill complex. Stuttgart is surrounded by one of the largest rice growing areas in the US.

If you are wishing for this accident to take place, why are you against accidents in the first place?
It seems you find it positive when drivers get killed.
Sounds like some kind of crazy darvinism to me.
why do people ignore warning devices on crossings…
anyone know what song that was?

Check out this one.I wonder what company that trucker used to work for?I say ‘used to’ because I don’t think he works for CRST anymore.
Have a good one.

I just watched this one, and from what I saw, it would be a miracle if no one got themselves killed. I work for a distributor of Shell fuel products, and if any one of our company’s drivers had pulled a stunt like this, regardless of whether or not the tank was empty, he most certainly would be out of a job.

Don’t you mean Darwins theory of evolution? In which case the dangerous members of a species are eliminated by natural selection! It is better that these people are taken care of either by the system or their own misadventure, than they are allowed to continue and threaten the safety of the innocent. Had that idiot been carrying any thing of an explosive nature? He would in all probability wiped out the train crew, the people in the car he hit and numerous others. There are always people around who cannot see the wood for the trees.
Lord Atmo I can’t remember the name of the song, but it was by Don McClean IIRC.

Last night at 2055 GMT a man of 55 ran his car off the road and through a fence on to the tracks near York and derailed the front car of a Plymouth to Edinburgh express carrying 75 passengers at 100 mph. No one on the train was hurt but unfortunately the car driver perished. It appears that the car failed to take a bend in a country lane. It will probably be some months (following an inquest) before the reason for the incident is known to the general public.
