Train Movies

Aztec Eagle:

Came up with another one: DRUMS IN THE DEEP SOUTH. Nifty Civil War actioner with Confederate soldiers trying to stop General Sherman’s supply trains in Georgia. Filmed on the Sierra Railroad with some excellent and thrilling railroad photography, especially as two supply trains try and outrun the Confederate cannon. Starred James Craig and Guy Madison. Came out sometime in the early 1950’s as I remember.

Tom

I’ve heard of it.Don’t think I’ve ever seen it.

Tickets, please.

Is it far to Tucumcari?

Thank you. Tickets.

We should pass there
in about three or four minutes.

Thanks.

Excuse me, but you've
made a mistake, Reverend.

I couldn't help hearing
you're going to Tucumcari.

I peddle goods around here, and I better
tell you you're on the wrong train.

I think the nearest stop
to Tucumcari is Amarillo.

By getting off at Sante Fe
and returning by way of Amarillo...

you should be able to get
right where you're going.

You see, the train
doesn't stop at Tucumcari.

This train'll stop at Tucumcari.

Take it easy, everybody!

Why'd you stop?
Something gone wrong?

Somebody pulled the emergency cord.

Hey, mister, you just can't pull
the emergency cord and jump off.

Why'd you stop that train?
If you want to get off, you...

Well, the railroad company'd be mighty
pleased to make any arrangements...

for any passenger if you want
to get off here, sir.

I did get off. Thanks.

I like emperor of the north and Break heart pass with Charles Bronson.

No real favorites per se, but…

“Long Riders” is a favorite of mine.

“Joe Kidd” has a rather interesting scene.[tup]

Anybody for “Bound For Glory”? The story of Woody Guthrie?

Countless John Wayne westerns. Shoot, countless westerns.

Good movie. Crappy story, but outstanding railroad shots

Given that one loco was a Pacific ( http://www.yesteryeardepot.com/MIL180.JPG ) and the other a 2-6-6-2 ( http://www.yesteryeardepot.com/MIL57.JPG ), it was no contest. In any case, it wasn’t a tug of war, but a shoving contest. An actual tug of war could have pulled a drawbar in either or both of the locomotives. IIRC, the MILW actually tested their electrics vs. the Mallets in just such a shoving contest.

As for the rest of the entries in, have y’all forgotten “The Great Locomotive Chase”?

Or Buster Keaton’s “The General”?

Then there’s Cecil B. DeMille’s epic “Union Pacific”.

Andre

Actually that CB&Q Hudson was the Grand Trunk Western 4070 a USRA 1918 light Mikado. The 4070 and several cars from the Cuyahoga Valley (Cleveland, OH) went to Fredonia, NY in 1983 for the filming.

I liked the remake of “The Taking of Pelham 123” with Travolta and Denzel Washington. Most of the action takes place in the NY subways. David

And who could forget “White Christmas” 1954! Wherein our cast of singing heroes take the Santa Fe from Florida to Vermont ^.^

Don’t forget that they start on a train with SP black widow F units.

Danger Lights has some incredible train shots. The steam locomotive tug of war, the engineer stuff oily rags in the hot box with the train at speed, lots more.

Ditto on the response about the ‘CB&Q’ loco in the Natural. It ran for years on a Cleveland area tourist line.

A League of Their Own has some nice shots of the CB&Q E5 withthe only problem being the overhead wire in the shot with the IL Railway Museum uses for their trolley cars.

[:-^]

And don’t forget “LEATHERHEADS” with George Clooney and Rene Zellwager. Its a FOOTBALL story that your wives would like to watch with you. You can’t loose on this one. Some really great train shots “IC” if my mind serves me correctly.

Johnboy out…and back to work.

From 1962/63 - Laurence of Arabia - blowing up some trains - fairly simplified.

Hey!!I thought they took the SP to Lake Shasta-aka-Vermont!!!

I thought of a Jerry Lewis/Dean Martin with some pretty good train scenes:1954’s"Living It Up".

Great scenes of the ATSF in New Mexico including Warbonnet F7’s;Blue&Yellow F7 Freight Units and even eithyer a 4-6-4 or 4-8-4!!!

2001’s"Mummy Returns".Pretty good shots of an Egyptian Passenger Train pulled by a 4-6-2!!

2008’s"Mummy:Tomb of the Dragon"features a wild car chase in downtown Shanghai complete with a tram!!

Maybe not everyone’s cup of tea, but I saw a good one last night on TCM with Jane Fonda called “Julia” that had a lot of early WW2 era passenger train action going across Germany to Moscow. it involves a courier smuggling documents across Europe and the border crossings. John

Oh Yeah!!I forgot about"Tough Guys"!!
Also Chuck Norris’s "Lone Wolf McQuade"in which he plays a Kung Fu Texas Ranger has some scenes of SP Tunnel Motors doing some switching at Fort Bliss.

Recently,Union Pacific had some trouble when a AC4400 powered Container broke down between Fort Worth and ElPaso.

They called Chuck Norris. He immediately Roundhouse Kicked the AC4400’s motor and got it moving again!!!

This has come alot in similar posts but Ill say it: Back to the Future III. A really good train part. Also, Shanghi Noon had a really good train theme to it.

Remember Liz Taylor in BUTTERFIELD 8, with a trip to the Hamptons on a train pulled by a New Haven EP-5 (with views of the Hudson River out the window)?
