we ran a short loop in the living room for the kids tonight. It felt good to get them running again after a long hiatis.
My son, who will be 4 on Dec 20th was the engineer and kept the train running at the proper speed, my daughter, who will be 2 this saturday, was having fun placing items on the cars as they passed by. I just wanted to share.
Yes, those are rescue heroes catching a ride on the flat car.

he has the bachmann 4-6-0, which is really loud, but he likes it, we ran my wife’s marklin 2-6-0 for most of the night, its very smooth and quiet, but not to scale with the rest of the cars, (as you can see in the last pic) but honestly, who cares, it looks great anyhow.
That is a very impressive thing to do. When I am grown-up(I am 13) and have kids, I might just try that. Heck, I might just try it with my sister (8) and my cousin (shes 8 too). They love the trains, though they are not train people themselves.
My Daughter is 14 months old and I’ve been told that she waits impatiently for my arrival from work to open packages from Trainsworld that have come in the post. Then, when I do open them, she is amazed by the item. I amost shed a tear.

Very cool indeed. My kids are 5, 8, and 14. The little ones absolutely love running trains. Your pics are so reminiscent of Christmas morning for me. Good for you…our kids are our future leaders so we should “Train” them up in the way they should go! Hee Hee. Later eh…Brian.
That’s what it’s all about, I sent a pic to my grandmother(she’s 92) of my daughter playing with her grand father’s X-mas present, he was 10 or so when he got it, then gave to me and someday It will be hers.
My daughter loves going to train shows, she thinks it would be more fun if she could touch more stuff and if I brought more money to buy stuff.
I understand the concept at shows to get the trains higher up for viewing, but I really hate those who don’t think of small children wanting to view their trains and don’t make accomodations for them[:(!]

the Dogs, leave the trains alone pretty much. they do forget and sometimes derail them with their feet. the dog in the pics is the femail, Abby, she tends to knock them over more than the male, who was upstairs in bed already at the time of the pics.
I have tons of track, just havent been able to set up the layout outside yet. next summer i hope.
What i have found was that starting the kids young with the trains, they have gotten used to them and dont wreck them. my son has his own 5’x4’ HO layout that he runs his HO Thomas on. they sit in the middle of it and play. I have an MDC 2-6-2 HO that i built up and painted to look like “James”, it has no motor in it but is otherwise complete, my son likes to put that on the track still and push it himself, i was going to put a motor in it, but i think he likes the interaction more when there isnt a motor. go figure.

The pics brought back happy memories of our S gauge (American Flyer) RR that my two sons and I built when they were about 6 and 4. Unfortunatly niether one grew up to be a train enthusiest. But I now have two grandsons aged 2 years and 3 months that I’m starting to work on. I’ll have to try to figure out where I went wrong with their fathers.
I had that slendid “Warm and Fuzzy” feeling when I read about you making a James out of a Model Die Casting 2-6-2. I would have been thrilled had my dad done that for me when I was that age (I am 13, and still have a secret thing for Thomas the Tank engine, but thats the best part of having a 8 year old sister, you can always blame it on her).
But, when I was 8, I did that. I made a Thomas, Percey, James and Edward out of HO scale models, But they had motors. I also made Annie, Clarabel, some more coaches, and frieght cars. I still have them and run them from time to time on my soon to be trashe HO scale layout.
If you are aware, Bachmann makes HO/OO scale models of Thomas and hius friends James and Percey. They also make Annie and Clarabel as well as The troublesome trucks, Bertie the Bus, Sir Topham Hat, Harold the Helecoptor, and Cranky the crane.
