Train room lounge

I would like to see some photos and ideas for my operating session lounge next to my layout room I am currently building. The area is 25’X12’. I have a bathroom next to it and plan on having a refridge for cold drinks as well. Any other ideas would be great.

Thanks, Rob

A flat screen TV with train DVD’s playing is good, old copies of cataloges, MR magazines, and prototype books and pictures. I even have a coffee table set up with thomas the tank trains for the little ones. Over Christmas I even set up a lionel starter set on the floor for people to run. Don’t forget the train shelves for display on the walls…these are great conversation starters.

If the overall trainroom is 25’ long by 12’ wide adding a Crew lounge of 5’ wide by 9’ long along the 12’ wide end would leave you a space of 20’ long by 12’ wide to build the train layout in with a 3’ wide by 9’ long hall. Use a small fridge and bar type table with two or three bar chairs to make the “Crew lounge” seem bigger and install windows between the layout room and the crew lounge so your crews can watch the action while taking a break. You could even use a wall of windows between the layout and the crew lounge without a door.

Yeah, but you can find an old CRT and a VHS player by the side of the road on garbage day, and spend the money on…

Train Cams. Plug the output of the wireless receiver into the TV, and you can watch engine-cab views from the layout in the lounge. I saw this at a club I visited last year.

A railcam would be nice. Didn’t think of that and they can be kitbashed from a spycam off ebay for under say $50US. The spycams are going for $35 or $40 on ebay and a used peice of rolling stock to install it in $5 or less.

I know a guy that has a really ugly orange hide-a-bed

he’d probably give it to you if you could get it out of the train room

[:-^]

The lounge is 12’X25’ by itself. The layout room is an additional 30’X28’ itself.

Thanks Rob

NOW HE TELLS US!!!

I’d say put more trains.

[sigh] Requesting more input, a bacis blueprint of the addition would be great toward understanding just how the space will be layed out. IE where and how does the bathroom fit in? And how is the room accessed? What all will there be in the addition that can not be moved? Need more input, more input.

I certainly hope your not planning on putting the refridge in the bathroom; if so be cautious of specimen cups!

Main line of the railroad goes through the lounge but no operating here. Here is my Superchief going over the TV. Room is right at the base of the stairs. Bathroom is back to the right.
